As promised, I am going to start unveiling my life hacks for living a happier and more balanced life. Today I am going to share with you my most treasured tip to starting your day off in the right way.
Before you think about leaving, no, I am not going to tell you to have a drink of lemon water first thing in the morning or sleep with the curtains open. I am going to give you a real solution to being a more positive person!
Two years ago I was victim to a horrific string of traumas that led to depression, anxiety and overall defeat. I had no structure, couldn’t find a reason to wake up in the morning, dreaded life and was one large heap of negative energy.
As a desperate act of hope, I decided to forcibly write 10 things that I love about my life. It sounds corny, but no matter how crappy I was feeling, I had to generate 10 positive thoughts. This could be something stupid like ‘I love my nail polish today’ to something more serious such as ‘today I woke without crying’. I bought a beautiful notebook in Cambodia, but until then had nothing worthy to write in it – this seemed like the perfect time to use it.
For the past two years (on and off), I have written my 10 positive points. Initially, this morning routine was a lifeline, and then it turned into a pleasure, now I occasionally pick it up and write in it if I am having a bad day.
Tip: At the beginning or if in a desperate state – force yourself to write ten points daily. After this, don’t put too much pressure on generating 10 points and it is ok if you don’t want to write in it every day. You don’t want to turn it into a chore!
Staying true to my yogi passion, here is a collection of my favourite morning yoga poses to do if you are having a rough start to the day! Enjoy!
